Bengal T20 Challenge: Goswami's ton help East Bengal beat Calcutta Customs

Kolkata, Dec 1 (IANS): Sreevats Goswami scored the first century of the ongoing Bengal T20 Challenge as East Bengal defeated Calcutta Customs by 54 runs in their latest encounter at the Eden Gardens.

On Monday evening, Customs won the toss and elected to field, a move that backfired big time. East Bengal, riding on Goswami's hundred, posted 175/6 in reply to which Customs could manage 121/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Goswami was in imperious form as he middled the ball right from the word go. He scored 12 boundaries and two sixes in his 71-ball knock. Apart from him, Ranjot Khaira and Sayan Mandal helped East Bengal build the highest total of the tournament so far.

East Bengal carried the momentum during their defence as well with Sujit Yadav (3/24) and Akash Pandey (2/12) never letting the Customs batters settle. A late rush from Karan Lal (unbeaten 30 of 26) and Abhilash Semiwal (unbeaten 24 of 21) though provided some entertainment but that was not enough to take the team across the line.

"We needed to win this match cause we have lost previous four matches. We were determined to give our best and win this important game. I am happy that my century helped my team win the match. Hopefully we will carry this winning momentum forward and win rest of the matches," said Goswami.
