Gurugram: 267 fined for flouting pollution norms, Rs 57L collected


Gurugram, Dec 1 (IANS): Teams deployed under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to monitor implementation of measures to combat pollution in Gurugram, have penalized 267 persons for violating the norms from October 15 to November 30 and also collected Rs 57 lakh as penalty.

The GRAP had come into force on October 15.

These include Rs 1.30 lakh penalty imposed on 13 violators for burning garbage, Rs 5.75 lakh on 23 violators of C&D dumping, Rs 85,000 on 17 violators for non-compliance of environmental regulations in construction activities.

A total of 195 violators faced fines amounting to Rs 48.75 lakh who were involved in dust blowing.

A team of the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG) visited multiple locations in the city after several complaints were received from the residents.

The complaints were related to flouting of environmental norms, a MCG official said.

"The corporation teams are constantly monitoring those who violate the GRAP in the municipal area and fines are being imposed as per the rules. The construction projects that violate the environmental norms will be penalized to keep pollution under control," said Jaspreet Kaur, Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Gurugram.

The violators were warned by the civic body officials to comply with the environmental regulations in construction activities.

"The civic body is constantly spraying water in the area to prevent dust from blowing and the roads are being cleaned by mechanical machines. The civic body is working effectively to ensure compliance with the Graded Response Action Plan," she said.
