Lucknow's SGPGIMS conducts maximum Covid tests in a day

Lucknow, Dec 4 (IANS): The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) here has claimed to have conducted the highest number of RT-PCR tests for Covid-19 in a single day in the whole country.

The team of technicians and experts in the microbiology department of SGPGIMS conducted 7,748 tests on Wednesday.

"Our lab has not shut for even a minute. Through the Covid-19 case reporting portal, we came to know that our centre had tested the highest number of samples on the day, which is a highly motivating achievement for our 70-member team," head of the microbiology department, Professor Ujjala Ghoshal said in a statement.

SGPGI had started conducting Covid-19 tests in March.

"Senior research fellow (SRF) Ankita Pandey had just got married when we started testing. She did not even take one leave, not even on Karva Chauth," said Ghoshal.

Ghoshal also gave credit to bio-safety officer Dharamvir Singh, data supervisor Nicki, logistics manager Nikhil and SRF Hemant, saying they showed commendable grit and the lab could not have functioned round-the-clock without their support.

Besides, SGPGIMS has also competed 6 lakh Covid-19 tests till date.

The King George's Medical University (KGMU) had completed over 5 lakh tests in September.
