Mangaluru: Two days entrepreneurship awareness programme inaugurated at MITE

Mangaluru, Dec 4: The two-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EAP) for engineering graduates organized by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE) in association with the Institution Innovation Council and the New Age Innovation Network of the Department of IT, BT, S&T, Government of Karnataka was inaugurated by K Socrates, deputy director of MSME DI.

Inaugurating the event, Socrates stressed the need for students to be ambitious and said that intelligence without ambition is like a bird with no wings. Ambition becomes habit and habit becomes a way of life, this is crucial for entrepreneurs to succeed. In his presidential address, Dr G L Easwara Prasad, principal of MITE spoke about the entrepreneurship ecosystem at the institution and the vision of the institution to handhold young graduates who aspire to venture into businesses. He urged the students to constantly evolve, explore and exploit what they learn. Dr Joseph Jerrad, head of MITE EDC welcomed the gathering and Glenson Toney, manager of MITE Incubation Center hosted the event.

The inauguration was followed by the keynote address from K Socrates, who spoke about the opportunities for young graduates to pursue entrepreneurship in the changing times, and stressed on the need for exploring them. He also talked about the characteristics of an entrepreneur and the undying passion and also hinted at the paradigm shift that India is witnessing where young men and women are inclined towards entrepreneurship. The two days EAP will have successful entrepreneurs, business managers and alumni interacting with the participants on different facets of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship ecosystem at MITE

The Institution Innovation Council, Entrepreneurship Development Cell and the Incubation Center spearheads the entrepreneurial activities at MITE. The institution has a 10000 sq ft incubation center of industry standards which houses three alumni startups and ten student startups. The incubation center received a grant of INR 1.2 crore from the department of IT, BT, S&T, Government of Karnataka through the New Age Innovation Network programme and INR 65 lac from MSME, Government of India for business incubation. The incubation center has seed funded 10 student innovative ideas up to three lac with these grants. In addition to this, the institution holds Ideathons, Hackathons, workshops, seminars for entrepreneurship development.
