Mangaluru: Mangalore University Center celebrates Dr B R Ambedkar's 64th Mahaparinirvana Day

Mangaluru, Dec 7: “The Architect of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar was a great Humanitarian whose aim was to build a casteless, humanistic society where every Indian will have a place under the sun,” said Dr Vishvathnath, director of Ambedkar Study centre.

He was speaking at the celebration of Mahaparinirvana Divas at the university campus at Mangalagangothri on December 6. He stressed the need that Dr Ambedkar was the architect of the constitution as a means of achieving a casteless society on the Buddhist philosophy of acceptance of all in the spirit of love and compassion for all living beings.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Yedapadithaya in his presidential remarks cautioned that we are mere mortals but ideas are immortal and need to be cultivated in the younger generation and that events like these are like watering a plant which if not done will wither. Raju Mogaveera KAS, registrar of the University in his address stressed the need and importance of fundamental rights like the right to live as a means of achieving the inner meaning of the constitution that Dr B R Ambedakar stood for. He was of the opinion that without fundamental rights it is guaranteed that in the constitution, life itself would be meaningless.

Prof Somama of the Kannada department was master of ceremony of the programme and Prof Prasanth Naik proposed the vote of thanks. The commemoration of the event is marked by the presence of teaching, non-teaching staff, students and scholars of the university in a large number.
