Panaji, Dec 8: Panaji roads were finally redone with zebra crossings after five long years with a hope to regulate traffic. Six zebra crossings were repainted starting from Down the Road near the old Patto bridge at Panaji till Customs House, a report by TOI stated.
As per reports, 29 more will be painted across the city by this week. Other essential markings, like those for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, were also painted by the pay parking contractor hired by the Corporation of the city of Panaji (CCP).
While the zebra crossings are in the process of getting repainted, pedestrians will still need assistance from traffic police for a safe commute. The CCP is contemplating writing to the traffic cell to depute officers at these crossings to ensure that motorists do not speed on the roads approaching these crossings. Signage boards are also likely to be replaced, sources said.
