Mangalore: People Condole Death of Victims, Organize Candlelight Vigil

Mangalore, May 25: Most of the citizens of the city had woken up to the most gruesome morning of their lives on Saturday 22, as the first thing they learnt after waking up, was the tragic air crash that claimed 158 lives and left hundreds of families in a trauma. The people not only took part in the rescue and relief operations wholeheartedly, but have also been organizing condolence meets and trying to provide succour to the bereaved families.
The city witnessed a candlelight vigil on the evening of Monday May 24, which was organized by a few youths from the city in front of Collectors Gate branch of Canara Bank in the city. The response to the short notice call given by these youths was spontaneous and the young people were more than willing to pray for the departed souls.
The people, who gathered near the Bank, lit candles and took out a silent procession. The policemen and the vehicle drivers, who were moved by the enormity of the catastrophe and the gesture of the youngsters, helped the procession to move on and complete its task.
After the procession came to a close, Fr Ravi Santosh Kamath offered prayers to the departed souls and prayed the Almighty to give the families of the deceased the strength to bear the loss and come out of their grief. The youths said that their purpose behind organizing this solemn programme was to help the bereaved families know that the citizens of the city are with them in their hour of grave crisis. What made the occasion special was the fact that it comprised mostly of youngsters, it was organized spontaneously, and that it was an effort that came from the depths of the hearts of the participants.
