India Disappointed Over Saeed's Release

New Delhi, May 25 (IANS): India Tuesday voiced disappointment over the release from house arrest of Hafiz Saeed, one of the masterminds of the Mumbai carnage, by the Pakistan Supreme Court and asked Islamabad to take meaningful action against such elements.

"There is a sense of disappointment. Everybody in India feels this disappointment," Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters here.

"We regard Saeed as one of the masterminds of the Mumbai attacks. He has openly declared jihad against India," Rao said.

Rao was reacting to the Pakistan Supreme Court dismissing appeals by the federal and Punjab governments against Saeed's release from house arrest. The Supreme Court maintained that there was no solid proof of Saeed's involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai attack.

"Enough evidence has been given by India," Rao said while referring to detailed evidence against the anti-India ideologue provided to Pakistan during the Feb 25 foreign secretary-level talks.

"We hope Pakistan will be sensitive to our concerns and take meaningful action against such elements," she said.
