Mangaluru, Dec 14: "The youth of the community with their hard work and perseverance should bring medals to the state and the country," said former 'Mr World' winner in bodybuilding Raymond D' Souza.
He was speaking at the valedictory programme of badminton tournament (doubles) organised for the players of the Christian community of Mangaluru and Udupi diocese organised by Christian Sports Association, Mangaluru on December 13 at U S Mallya Indoor Stadium, Lalbagh.
He called upon the youth in the community to give importance to various other sports, along with their area of sport.
"You should utilise the facilities available in the department of youth service and sports," he added.
"The youth should not think that only those from the city can excel in sports. Nowadays there are plenty of opportunities. I have never thought that I would reach this position but my effort and dedication brought me here," Raymond said.
Internationally acclaimed former weightlifter Arthur D' Souza said, "Thirty-fiveyears ago I stopped taking part in weightlifting competitions. But now I get the opportunity to take part in the sports event. Due to the pandemic, preparation for the Olympics has been stalled but the youth should not be discouraged. Within six months everything will be set right. Youngsters should continue efforts without giving any break to their practice. However, they should also remember to never move towards the shortcut of gaining popularity through the consumption of steroids."
