Bhopal: Idgah Hills Sindhi Panchayat renamed as Guru Nanak Tekri

Bhopal, Dec 14 (IANS): Amid a demand to rename Bhopal's Idgah Hills area, the Sindhi Panchayat here has changed its name to 'Guru Nanak Tekri Panchayat'.

Rameshwar Sharma, the Protem Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, has been demanding a change in the name of the Idgah Hills area. His contention is that Guru Nanak visited the place 500 years ago and hence the name of the place should be Guru Nanak Tekri.

The Sindhi Panchayat had supported Sharma's demand. In a meeting of the Sindhi Panchayat, it was unanimously decided to change the name to Guru Nanak Tekri Panchayat. The Panchayat has now urged the people to write Guru Nanak Tekri instead of Idgah Hills.

Apart from Idgah Hills, Sharma has also advocated the renaming of Hoshangabad as Narmadapuram.

Indore MP Shankar Lalwani had raised the demand to change the name of Khajrana to Ganesh Colony or Ganesh Nagar. Similarly, Congress state secretary Vivek Khandelwal wrote a letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, demanding that Indore be named after Devi Ahilyabai Holkar.
