Ambedkar statue desecrated in UP village


Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 15 (IANS): A statue of Dalit icon Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar has been found desecrated at a village in Ballia district.

The statue was installed in the Lohta Pachdaura village under Bhimpura police station, and it was possibly damaged on Monday night by 'antisocial' elements, police said.

Station House Officer (SHO) Shiv Milan said the villagers informed the police about the incident on Tuesday morning.

Circle Officer K.P. Singh said the situation was under control and the police have initiated action in the matter.

"There is no tension in the area. Police personnel have been deployed. A new statue of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar will be installed soon," he said.
