Udupi: State govt provides safety kits to election booth officials

Udupi, Dec 15: The state government has supplied safety kits in view of Covid-19 to all the election booth officials and staff across the 153 gram panchayats where elections will be held on December 22 and 27.

The kits that are supplied by MSIL have four sanitized bottles of 500 ml, six sanitized bottles of 100 ml, 20 triple-layer surgical masks, six face shields, six hand gloves and a biomedical disposable bag.

Over 1,260 kits and 620 thermal scanners have been supplied to the district. The kits will be useful to 5,040 election staff. There will be four election staff in each of the polling booths. Necessary precautions have been taken for voters to cast votes while keeping in mind social distancing. Anganwadi activists have been also deployed to examine voters.

Around 171 kits have been supplied to Udupi, 138 to Byndoor, 219 kits to Brahmavar and 27 kits are supplied to Hebri taluk for the first phase of elections on December 22. 287 kits are supplied to Kundapur, 205 for Karkala and 151 kits will be supplied to Kaup for the second phase of elections on December 27. The thermal scanners used during the first phase of elections will not be used during the second phase of elections.

Voters should mandatorily wear masks while coming to polling booths. Hands should be sanitized while casting the votes. The state election commission has also ordered for conducting elections in a safe manner while adhering to the Covid regulations. Following which, the district administration has taken all the precautionary measures.
