Udupi: St Mary English School Gets New Building

Udupi, May 29: St Mary English School here, had recently celebrated its silver jubilee. Now, the school is set to conduct its activities in the new academic year in a new, well-equipped and spacious building.
The school, being run by Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore diocese, has a place of pride in the comity of educational institutions in the region. The school, which started functioning in the year 1984, will henceforth work from the new campus that has come up at Kannarpady here.
The school has always held high the principles of discipline, child-centric education, social concern, stress on imparting knowledge, commitment to truthfulness etc. Out of the 17 SSLC student batches, which have passed out of the school so far, 13 batches recorded cent percent result. The school, which has 1,050 students in its pre-primary, primary and high school sections, has been attracting more students with passing year. The fee charged by the school is within the reach of common men. This institution has always laid stress on extra curricular activities like debates, elocution, painting, Rangoly, flower arrangements, cooking, handicrafts, making of Goodu Deepas etc.
The school also offers opportunities to the students to get trained in classical music, dance, Yakshagana, karate, key board, tabla, painting, animation and theatre. The student parliament, interact club, scouts and guides, science club and several other clubs are active in the school.
A spacious library, laboratory with all facilities, canteen, new, spacious play ground and facilities for indoor sports are added attractions of this school. The school has also been undertaking individual counselling for students with learning problems, and imparting special coaching and guidance to them to improve their performances.
School convener, Fr Mathew Vaz, and headmistress, Myrtle Louis, have been providing efficient administration and inspirational guidance to the students. The school hopes to scale newer heights in terms of the achievements of its students in academic, sports and other activities, by following the ideals it has always cherished.
