Man stabbed over distribution of salad in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS): A 60-year man was stabbed and critically injured after an argument with a vagabond over the distribution of onion salad in South Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, police said on Thursday.

The police arrested the accused after the verification and investigation of over 500 labourers.

The accused has been identified as Riyasat Ali, aged 59 years and the knife used in the offence also was recovered, said police.

On sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was a vagabond in Delhi, who worked as a daily wage labourer at different places. He told police that he felt annoyed about getting less onion salad, and entered into argument with others.

Ali originally hails from Uttar Pradesh's Badaun and has been living in Delhi for the past 30 years.

"On December 8, he had come to the SB Farm in Fatehpur Beri for work in a godown where he entered into a heated argument with another labourer, named Pawan, on the distribution of the onion salad.

"During the argument, he stabbed Pawan with a kitchen knife which was already lying there and ran away from the spot. He hid the knife near the wall of another Farm on the main road in Fatehpur Beri," said Atul Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South Delhi.
