New Zealand reports 6 new coronavirus cases


Wellington, Dec 20 (IANS): New Zealand on Sunday reported six new coronavirus cases in managed isolation over the weekend, said the Ministry of Health in a statement.

The statement said that there were no new community cases, reports Xinhua news agency

The total number of active cases in New Zealand is 55, while the overall caseload has increased to 2,110.

The death toll stood at 25.

According to the Ministry, the total number of tests processed by New Zealand laboratories to date reached 1,371,889.

Health officials are closely monitoring the situation in the Australian state of New South Wales which is reporting increasing numbers of Covid-19 community cases.

Increased public health and testing measures relating to aircrews have been implemented to further safeguard the country against the virus, said the Ministry.

New Zealanders were urged by the Ministry to keep contact tracing during the upcoming holiday season.

New Zealand is currently at Covid-19 Alert Level 1 with no restrictions on gatherings.
