Udupi, Dec 26: Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ was celebrated at St Mary’s English Medium School (CBSE), Kannarpady, here, on Wednesday December 23 at St Mary’s auditorium.
Christmas is a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. On this day people tend to wish their family and friends, happiness, love, kindness, peace and prosperity. This was visible at St Mary’s auditorium when the celebration began by invoking Almighty’s blessings. The guests of the function Fr Charles Menezes, the correspondent of St Mary’s Educational Institutions, Udupi, Fr Ashwin Aranha, assistant parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church Udupi graced the occasion. Alona welcomed the gathering.
As the pandemic restricted the entry of students to school it was the faculty of St Mary’s who presented a beautiful and meaningful programme. The correspondent in his message said, "Christmas is a happy occasion, which gives us the message of simplicity which is the need of the day due to the pandemic situation." He called on everyone to help the needy, in whatever way possible this Christmas and to spread happiness, peace and the message of sacrifice and to witness Christ in their lives.
Fr Johnson Sequeira, the principal of the school said, "Jesus was born 2000 years ago which brought good news to the downtrodden, sick and those who were suffering. Christmas is an occasion to share and care. He desired that this year’s Christmas brings new hope to cope with the pandemic and bring victory of health over sickness in his message.
Vice-principal, Rita Quadros and Manjula Blazo spoke on the importance of Christmas. St Mary’s teachers’ choir presented melodious carols, the teachers also tapped their feet to the music which created a merry atmosphere in the whole auditorium. The special attraction of the programme was the scene of the birth of Christ. The whole scenario took the gathered audience to the days when Jesus was born and there was a divinity everywhere. The traditional patron of Christmas, Santa Claus’ entry brought more joy and merriment in the auditorium.
On this special occasion, prizes were awarded to the winners of ‘Selfie with School Crib’ competition. A special cake was cut to symbolise the birthday of Jesus Christ and the traditional kuswar prepared by the St Marian’s increased the sweetness of the occasion.
On the whole, Christmas was celebrated with a message of sharing, giving and sacrifice without having selfish feelings. Wilma Nazareth proposed the vote of thanks. Renold S and Linet J Castelino coordinated the programme. The whole programme was meticulously planned by the principal and executed by the vice-principal.
