New Year gift for Delhi Police personnel as insurance cover raised


New Delhi, Jan 1 (IANS): Delhi Police personnel got a New Year gift on the first day of 2021 as insurance cover for natural death, accidental death and suicidal death.

Delhi Police Commissioner S.N. Shrivastava made the announcement on Friday while extending the New Year greetings to the staff and their family members on Friday.

He said that the Delhi Police negotiated a better insurance claim structure with Axis Bank, therefore, insurance cover for natural deaths has been raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 28 lakh and from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 78 lakh for accidental death. Apart from this, the family of the cop will be compensated with Rs 10 lakh if he commits suicide.

Amid pandemic outbreak, as many as 7,612 Delhi Police personnel got infected by Covid, however, 7,424 recovered but as many as 32 succumbed to the virus.

Apart from this, the Delhi Police lost 231 of its personnel due to natural deaths, 44 due to accidental deaths and 14 committed suicide in the previous year.
