Mangalore, Jun 9 (DHNS) : Mangalore is all set to hold CET counselling from this academic year. The counselling will be held at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management at Adyar, which is 8 km away from Mangalore and is situated on NH 48.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, CET Co-ordinator, Mangalore Shrutha Keerthi Raja said CET counselling in Mangalore would benefit about 15,000 medical and technical education aspirants of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, parts of Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, some students from Kasargod.
He said it was in 2009, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) made a historic decision to decentralise the counselling process for the convenience of the students and parents. Accordingly, two centres were started in Hubli and Gulbarga.
In response to the tremendous success of these two centres, KEA has opened two more centre in Shimoga and Mangalore this year.
He said the students can take up counselling at any five centres, even if they have mentioned Bangalore in their application forms.
Stating that 75,000 ranks have been given to those who have written CET examination, he said the first round of counselling will conclude on July 19. The casual round will start from July 21, he informed.
All the KSRTC Express buses will stop at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management at Adyar on request.
The counselling for the Indian system of medicine including Naturopathy, Ayurveda has been postponed and the dates will be announced later, he informed.
Shrutha Keerthi Raja said the engineering rank holders upto 20,000 belonging to any category and those parents whose annual income is below Rs 2 lakh are eligible to select engineering seat for Rs 18,090 in private unaided non minority engineering colleges by producing the income certificate issued by the concerned Tahsildar.

Fee must be paid in the form of Demand Draft, which the student must get during counselling.
Preparations
Shrutha Keerthi Raja said final preparations at the centre is in full swing. The counselling will be held in four sessions i. e 9 am to 11 am, 11.15 am to 1.15 pm, 2 pm to 4 pm and 4.15 pm to 6.15 pm. Four rooms have been made ready for registration, verification, allotment and admission process. The students must be present at the venue one hour prior to their respective session begins.
Inauguration
The inauguration of the Counselling process in Mangalore will be held on June 10. Infosys Vice-President Ramdas Kamath will inaugurate. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, MLAs will be the chief guests. District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar will preside.
