Shimoga, Jun 9: The term of judicial custody of BJP legislator, Hartalu Halappa, who lost his ministership after his friend’s wife slapped rape charge against him, has been extended by two more weeks. The order in this connection was passed by judge of JMFC court, Srinivas Gowda, on Tuesday June 8.
On Tuesday, a case pertaining to a complaint of threat to life, filed in the court by Chandravati, the woman who was allegedly raped by the minister, and her husband, against Basavaraj and Girish, said to be close associates of Halappa, came up for hearing in the same court. The two have already obtained anticipatory bail, and their application for regular bail was adjourned to June 11 by the judge. Halappa’s advocate, Ashok Bhat, said that Halappa could not personally appear in the court, as he has been undergoing treatment in Victoria Hospital, Bangalore.
The pressmen could talk to the accused Basavaraj and Girish after some efforts, as both of them tried to give them a slip. Both of them at first, refused to talk on the issue. However, later they said that they have not done anything wrong and that they have full confidence in the judiciary.
