New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS): The Delhi police crime branch has arrested an imposter identified as Devender Kumar Mishra, who posed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health, Assistant Professor, AIIMS, Delhi and Pediatrician, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. Fake identity cards were recovered from the accused.
Forty four-year-old Mishra, a resident of Rewa, posed as these officials to cheat gullible people and even government officials for which a case U/S 419/170/420/468 /471/474 IPC, was registered at Crime Branch, Delhi. He was arrested on Wednesday.
"Our team on December 28, 2020 received information at Cyber Cell, Crime Branch, that one Devender Kumar Mishra was impersonating as a Doctor as M.D., Pediatrician, D.M. Cardiology and also as a Visiting Faculty in AIIMS Cardiology, as a Visiting Faculty in Army Hospital, Delhi Cantt. & as an Advisor in Niti Aayog. As per information the suspected person, Devender Kumar Mishra alias Guddu was impersonating as senior bureaucrat to cheat the gullible public by corrupt means," said Shibesh Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch.
The interrogation of Mishra revealed that he had completed a diploma course as lab technician from Devi Ahilya Paramedical College, Indore in 1995.
He ran a sample collection centre for pathology labs in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh from 1996 to 2000. He came to Delhi in 2008 and started a blood sample collection centre at Vinod Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, where he used to collect samples for different labs. However, he suffered losses in business and closed the collection centre.
Thereafter, he started doing liaison work using his contacts and impersonating as a senior bureaucrat and a doctor in prestigious hospitals to cheat the people and earn easy money. He also approached the District Magistrate of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh for issuing a gun license to one Sanjay Sharma, a resident of Aligarh, in lieu of money.
In 2016, the accused opened a clinic in Paliya, Lakhimpur Kheri, UP, named Shraddha Mother and Child Clinic where he claimed to be a doctor and used his forged Identity Card of AIIMS to cheat people. The forged ID card showing him as Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, AIIMS has been recovered from his possession.
He was presently staying at Dev Heights at Dasna in Ghaziabad. Further investigation in the case is in progress.
