Mangalore, Jun 11: The police personnel of Pandeshwar police station in the city have unearthed a racket involved with preparing fake electoral voter identity card, and arrested four persons. Reportedly, the gang was involved with preparing fake voter identity card for facilitating a man to apply for passports.
The arrested men have been identified as Abdul Khader (76), K A Abdul Khader (42), both from Kaprigudda here, and Nazir (38) and Abdul Munaf (35), residents of Casba Bengre village. The misdeeds of the foursome came to light, after the policemen made discreet inquiries, after they developed suspicion over a voter identity card furnished as enclosure to a passport application, and questioned the concerned, during the police verification.
The policemen said that Abdul Khader from Kaprigudda, who does not have any records to prove his residential status, approached K A Abdul Khader, his distant relative, with a request to help him to undertake Haj pilgrimage. Khader then referred him to Nazir, having an office near Rao and Rao Circle here. After Nazir offered to furnish him the necessary voter identity card if K A Abdul Khader pays him Rs 2,000, the latter agreed. The work of preparing fake identity card was entrusted by Nazir to Abdul Munaf, having computer printing and stationery business on Bibi Alabi Road here, by paying him Rs 500. Munaf prepared the card by using computer, and by pasting the stamp removed from a record of rights issued by the revenue department. On the basis of the voter identity card so prepared, K A Abdul Khader applied for passport.
Abdul Khader and K M Abdul Khader were arrested on June 8. Nazir was nabbed on June 9 while Abdul Munaf was taken into custody on June 10. All the accused have been remanded to judicial custody. The policemen are making enquiries to find out whether the concerned had prepared fake identity cards even in the past.
