Punjab to acquire heritage palace in Malerkotla


Chandigarh, Jan 11 (IANS): The Punjab Cabinet on Monday approved the acquisition and conservation of Mubarik Manzil Palace in Malerkotla in Sangrur district.

The state will give Rs 3 crore to present property owner Begum Munawwar-ul-Nisa for transferring the heritage property to it.

Thr virtual meeting of the Cabinet was chaired by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who said that the decision would help preserve the rich legacy of Punjab and to reconnect the new generations to their glorious past.

Notably, Begum Munawwar-ul-Nisa had written to Punjab authorities to point out that the palace -- of which she is the sole owner -- is an invaluable heritage property that was more than 150 years old.
