Mumbai, Jan 12: In a newly issued avian influenza action plan the BMC has urged citizens to report dead bird sightings on its ‘1916’ helpline.
"Before burying any dead birds, civic officials must report the incident to the animal husbandry department’s rapid response team...," BMC said.
Further, the assistant municipal commissioner (markets) also maintained that a detailed SOP for shops selling poultry items at BMC markets will soon be issued.
Bird flu has been confirmed in 10 states — Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Delhi. Meanwhile, deaths of poultry birds have so far been confirmed only in Parbhani in Maharashtra and Barwala in Haryana.
