Moodbidri, Jan 13: Staff of a company who were deputed to Niddodi here for undertaking a survey work to draw power distribution line of 400 kv from Udupi on Tuesday January 12 were stopped and sent back. Members of Matru Bhoomi Samrakshana Horata Samiti stopped the personnel of the Chennai-based company.

After the members of the said committee came to know that unidentified people were undertaking survey, they went to the spot and sought information from the staff. They were told that the visitors were employees of a Chennai-based company who were here to undertake survey as per company directions. They said that if there is opposition, they would go back and requested not to harm them. They then returned back.

President of the committee, Alphonse D'Souza, said that in 2019 too a similar attempt was made by a private company to draw powerline. He said that the members of the committee had sent them back even then. "Most of the people in Niddodi are farmers. If they draw huge power lines, our agricultural lands will be damaged. We had opposed the proposed thermal power generation here for the same reason," he explained.
