Mangalore, Jun 12: Centenary of great Konkani poet Bakibab Borkar is being observed this year. Various programmes will be held at different places to commemorate the occasion.
In this connection Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation along with Kavita Trust will organize `Bakibab Shatabdi Smaran’, a day long programme at World Konkani Centre, Shakti Nagar here on Sunday June 13.
The programme includes a seminar, a Kavi Sammelan, release of Kannada translation of Bakibab’s selected poems and Bakibab Kavita Sangeeth Suvalo where musical renditions on Bakibab’s selected poems will be presented.
Eminent Konkani poet and Goa Liberation Movement leader Nagesh Karmali will inaugurate the function followed by a seminar on themes pertaining to Bakibab’s poetry. Well-known Konkani writers and critiques like Rajay Pawar and Bhushan Bhave will present their views. The seminar will be moderated by professor Narayan B Desai, Canacona, Goa.
Kavi Sammelan which is a prominent part of the day-long program will host poets like Shakuntala Kini, Rajay Pawar, Andrew L D’Cunha, Wilma Bantwal, Venkatesh Nayak, Jerry Rasquinha and S N Bhat Saipangallu. It will be moderated by eminent Konkani poet and critique H M Pernal.
Second session in the afternoon is for Kannada audience wherein eminent Kannada poet H Dundiraj will release ‘Noopura’ a book of Bakibab’s selected poems, translated in Kannada by Shakuntala Kini. U K Kumaranath, resident editor, Vijay Karnataka will be the guest of honour.
The day long programme will be concluded with befitting musical tributes to the great Konkani poet –‘Bakibab Kavita Sangeet Suvalo’ under the direction of eminent musician Ustad Rafique Khan. Eminent singers Vasanti R Shenoy Udupi, Muralidhar Shenoy Kochi, Ravindra Prabhu Mulki, Divya Sujeer and Deeksha Sujeer will render popular poems of Bakibab with musical accompaniment.
