Udupi, Jan 26: Progressive organizations in Udupi staged a rally on foot expressing solidarity with the protest rally undertaken by over one lac tractors and crores of farmers in Delhi against the contentious farm bills.

The rally began from the Board High School, Udupi and concluded at Martyrs Memorial, Ajjarkad. The protesters at the rally were also heard shouting slogans against the union government. 

Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samithi district chief convener Sundar Master demanded that the three farm acts be revoked immediately. "The government at the centre is determined to implement them. People have the right to protest and as of now, we have only carried out a symbolic protest. However, stronger protests will be held if necessary,” he said.

Farmers' committee district convener Shashidhar stated that the corporate companies would snatch the land from the farmers in the next two years if the farm acts are implemented. "The country attained independence because of workers and farmer groups. The government will not last long if the farmers and working-class people oppose their ways of governance," he warned.

District Congress committee’s William Martis and progressive thinker Faniraj addressed the protesters.

Udupi district Congress, Dalit Sangharsha Samithi, Udupi district Muslim Okkoota and pro-farmer organizations took part in the rally.

Various organization leaders Ramesh Kanchan, Sham Raj Birthi, Prashanth Jathanna, farmers' committee's Shashidhar Hegde, Krishnamurthi Acharya, Vishwas Ameen, William Martis, CPIM’s district secretary Balakrishna Shetty, Ganesh Nergi, Sunita Shetty, Muslim Okkootta president Yasin Malpe, Hussain Kodibengre, Salavuddin and others were present.
