Mangaluru: Live worm found in food ordered from fast-food outlet, complaint filed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jan 31: A woman, who ordered home-delivery from ChicKing fast-food outlet located in a mall in the city, was in for a shock when she found a live worm traversing in the packet of the parcel supplied to her. She has filed a complaint in this regard with Urwa police station of the city.

Salma Simran, a resident of Ladyhill in the city, had ordered chicken and burger from ChicKing at around 7.30 pm on Saturday January 30. She received her parcel at 8 pm. However, when the complainant, her mother and children were consuming the food, they found a live worm in the chicken dish. The shocked family brought this to the notice of Urwa police station.

Giving details of the issue, Salma said, "We ordered chicken dishes and burgers from ChicKing. I was having the food with my mother and children. We saw a live worm on the food. We were shocked. We had assumed that the outlet supplies quality food. But the quality of food supplied was not upto the mark. We tried to contact the outlet several times but could not get connected. They should have checked the parcel box before packing the food. If some untoward incident had happened who would have taken responsibility?

"We had ordered six burgers. My mother and children consumed four. Two burgers were remaining for my sister and me. When I opened the burger packet to eat, I saw a live worm. This is a matter related to health, and officials concerned should take action," she said.

Responding to the issue, Keshav Das, manager of the ChicKing outlet said, "Our chicken dishes are prepared at a temperature of 163 degree temperature. There is no chance of any live worm being found in our dishes. Food is packed only after cleaning up everything. Till date, we have not received any complaint of this sort. Still, we will give the customer fresh food and also return the money. We will speak to the customer on Sunday and resolve the issue."

If the worm was inside the burger they would have just eaten it without even noticing. Its best to cook at home and eat rather than ordering the food from outside. Outside food may be tasty but you never know what what hygiene conditions the food was prepared, packed etc.

John mangalore /Hongkong,I am sure not as a living, but fried most probably.Somehow they offered here a living protein in Burger. If a living wurm is there means ,salat is bio,not with chemicals came in contact.Only problem is we are not used to eat knowingly .Most probably I think it must have fallen from roof by mistake landed in Burger. So this time excuse them once ,if this not happened previously often.Every one make mistake .They have already told to give one fresh without this time ,and return money.Good noone had taken a piece of it ,Otherwise bad taste may not go away life long.

    Elwyn,

Sure, and tastier too but times are changed and these days even the kids are well aware what type of fast food is the best and their favourable item in the menu list. With todays fast world the take away facilities and out lets are mushrooming every corner of the city or roads. Easy to order and choices many folds. some restaurants give free delivery too.

Possible that rivalry between Fast food chain company and third person is involved too tarnish the good name quality products of certain company. It must have also got out out from some green leaves they use like; lattuce, cabbage etc.

Mr.Das Chicken King Mangalore, you said you boil the dish at 163 C temp, i agree , but for the burger dont you use the fresh vegetables like cucumber, Lettuce, Tomato ?? see the worm , its from fresh vegetables , make sure that the vegetables that you receive at your store wash them properly before using them . dont you feel shame and giving a statement that you will speak to the customer on Sunday and resolve the issue . food department should take this matter seriously ask them to pay heavy fine and compensate to the customer also .

Its not a worm but a caterpillar, may be from the cucumbers used. Caterpillars are eaten in a number of south east asian countries and are rich in protein.
