14 Pakistani MPs Disqualified over Fake Degrees

Islamabad, June 22 (IANS) Fourteen parliamentarians of three political parties, including the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), have been disqualified for holding fake degrees, a media report said Tuesday.

Of the 14 parliamentarians, three are from the PPP, seven are from the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and four are from the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid that was voted out of power in the 2008 general elections.

The issue of parliamentarians holding fake degrees has become a matter of national concern, APP news agency reported.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has forwarded the degrees of all members of parliament, including the Senate and the National Assembly, as also of the provincial assemblies, to the standing committee on education for verification, the report quoted ECP spokesman Muhammad Afzal as saying.
