President asked to Reject Guru's Mercy Plea

New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) The union home ministry has asked President Pratibha Patil's office to reject parliament attack convict Afzal Guru's mercy plea, informed sources said.

Guru is on the death row since 2002 for the 2001 parliament attack. His wife Tabassum filed a mercy petition with the Rashtrapati Bhavan four years ago.

The sources said the mercy petition was sent to the home ministry for its view and it returned the file last week, rejecting the plea because of the heinous nature of the crime.

With the home ministry recommending that the plea be rejected, it is now up to the president to take a call on the fate of Guru, exercising her powers under Article 72 of the constitution.

Afzal Guru has attacked the parliament, he must be sent to gallows. Similary those who attack and destroy the secular institutions of India, must be put to death, no matter who he is and what may come. Nobody is above law. Mera Hindustan mahan hei. We dont need any certificate of patriotism, by any one. We know who we are and who is Afzal Guru, Advani and Modi and the like.

No doubt, why Bhopal case verdict took 25 years for the verdict. When for a simple mercy petition, Congress govt. can take 5 years, our judiciary system is a reflection of our govt.'s performance standards. Congress sat on this case and now says that, the mercy petition is rejected. They did not have courage to take the decision in their first term of the rule.
