Mangaluru: DC stresses on need to regulate movement of LPG tankers

Mangaluru, Feb 4: Noting that unsafe movement of LPG tankers on highways has been creating problems in the smooth movement of people and the goods besides posing a grave danger to people and environment, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, K V Rajendra, instructed the officials to exercise checks on the unregulated movement of these bullet tankers.

He was speaking after holding discussions on the issue with the officials, after charging the district level disaster management committee meeting on Wednesday, February 3 at the auditorium of his office here.   
 
 
Noting that LPG tankers have to take the road only during fixed hours, he asked the police to penalise tankers which violate the rules. He noted that because of frequent accidents of these tankers, vehicular traffic is hit. He also asked the officials of the gas companies to respond to such situations and handle them faster and more effectively. 

He noted that as already informed earlier, it is mandatory for such tankers to have two drivers. He asked the gas companies to see that gas tankers do not move on the roads between 10 pm and 6 am.

District superintendent of police, Laxmi Prasad, city corporation commissioner, Akshay Sridhar, IAS probationary officer, Mohan Roth, additional deputy commissioner M J Roopa, district disaster management expert, Vijayakumar Poojar, deputy director of factories and boilers, Rajesh Mishra Koti, and security officers of Bharat Petrochemicals Ltd, and Total gas company participated.
