Udupi: Accused who evaded police custody sentenced to 2 years in jail

Udupi, Feb 4: Hanumantha Basappa Kambali was arrested by the Manipal police back in March 2019 in connection to a rape and a murder case. He was produced in court in this regard who remanded him to judicial custody. Following which the accused was being taken to Hiriadka district prison. As the vehicle came closer to the prison, it slowed down and Hanumantha making use of this opportunity, pushed the cops in the vehicle aside and escaped. A case in this regard was also registered in the Hiriadka police station.

Brahmavar police circle inspector K C Povayya had even submitted a charge sheet to the court in this matter.

The case was heard at Udupi Principal Justice and JMFC court. Justice Irfan who examined witnesses and heard arguments concluded that Hanumantha is guilty and on February 2 sentenced him to two years imprisonment.

Senior assistant public prosecutor Badrinath had examined the witnesses and submitted the arguments.
