Odisha to build Covid warrior memorial

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): The Odisha government has decided to construct a Covid warrior memorial, which will be ready by Independence Day this year.

As per a circular issued by P.K. Mohapatra, Additional Chief Secretary in the Works Department of the state, the memorial will come up at the Biju Patnaik Park in Bhubaneswar.

As per the circular, the memorial will keep alive the memory of the supreme sacrifice made by the Covid warriors. Mohapatra said in the circular that the memorial will be ready by August 15.

"In order to keep the sacrifices made by the Covid warriors alive in the memory of the people as well as to recognise the service rendered by those who have lost their lives fighting the pandemic, the government has decided to construct a Covid-19 warrior memorial," Mohapatra said.

The Works Department has been designated as the nodal department for the memorial. It will engage architects to finalise the design and structure of the memorial. The cost of construction will be met from the budgetary provisions of the department.
