Bengaluru, Feb 10: Through a circular issued on Tuesday, February 9, the department of religious endowments has allowed all the temples to resume all normal activities including religious rituals, festivals, car festivals etc.

In view of the prevalence of coronavirus infection, temples had been allowed to perform only basic and routine pujas and services. All special puja and rituals had been suspended. Usually, the annual festivals in major temples are held during February. The devotees had been pressing the government to accord permission to celebrate these occasions. Now the temples have been allowed to undertake these festivals including community feast subject to taking coronavirus-related precautions.

The guest houses of major temples had been closed in the light of coronavirus risks. Now they can be allowed to be used by the devotees while adhering to necessary precautions.

The devotees were upset at the extension of the ban in the temples although the cinema halls are allowed to run a full house. Now, succumbing to pressure from them, the government has relaxed the restrictions. This measure is also expected to improve the earnings of the temples, which had suffered on account of the suspension of various services and imposition of restrictions.
