This January, Rannvijay Singh will be the host of the new online poker-based reality show, The Player Hunt. Poker has become a popular hobby throughout India, but what our local fans are really wondering is will the player hunt showcase Teen Patti?
What We Know About The Player Hunt
The show will air on Poker High and feature a number of contestants getting together (virtually, at the moment) to play poker and talk about poker. Rannvijay Singh, a millennial icon, talked to The International Business Times about his role as host on this first-of-its-kind reality show.
The Player Hunt, features 12 contestants from various lifestyles and backgrounds that live throughout the country. Some contestants are experienced with poker and others are not, and it will be an interesting experiment to see who does better. Most of all, this show is meant to bring together a community of poker lovers throughout India.
“I have been playing poker for a while now, and this is the first time there is a game show on Poker called 'Player Hunt', which teaches people how to play the game, it's an interactive game. Anyone can participate from novices to homemakers and students. If you don't know how to play the game, there are tutorials for the same. It's an experience worth cherishing, and you will surely enjoy,” says Singh.
Teen Patti And India’s Poker Trend
Poker is one of the most fashionable card games worldwide and has gained a ton of esteem in India in the last few years. The biggest reason for its rise in popularity throughout the country is the accessibility to online poker and casino websites. Despite that, many Indians still prefer their national game Teen Patti. We’ve been playing Teen Patti for hundreds of years. Reportedly, the rules for Teen Patti came from an English game called 3-card brag, which has origins in poker. Until the popularity of European and other internationally-based gambling sites, Teen Patti was the number one game. Many fans online have expressed their hope to see Singh feature this national game.
We don’t know yet if The Player Hunt will surprise us by featuring Teen Patti. We’ll have to wait and see! However, many international online gambling and poker sites have modified their content for an Indian audience, often showcasing Teen Patti games that can be played for real cash online (browse sites on this list). We certainly hope that the Player Hunt favour Indian card games, and hopefully they will touch on playing Teen Patti in addition to Texas Hold’em poker.
Card Games, Celebrities, and Reality-TV
With online casinos increasing the popularity of various card games, Gaurav Gaggar, the director of The Player Hunt on Poker High, decided it was high time for a reality shower based on poker. “The time has come to make poker as popular as other card games. We are attempting to build a community around it. Our Bollywood celebs are also madly in love with poker.”
Bollywood celebrities have definitely added to the overall popularity of online poker and casino websites in general. For example, actress Minisha Lamba has taken on the role of brand ambassador for the poker platform Adda52 and become famous for her poker skills as well as her films. Other popular faces of gambling include Cricket players of the past and present, as well as other athletes, film stars, and musicians.
Pranav Premnarayen, the show’s promoter, stated on Facebook, “As we all know, these trying times have seen a rise in online gaming and viewing - but that's a phenomenon that's here to stay. The Player Hunt is something new, exciting, extremely interactive and is created to have mass appeal among our TA. It's also socially aware as it urges people to play responsibly. All in all, it is pretty much 'on trend'. Our communication and marketing plan is designed to take The Player Hunt to millions of screens pan India.”
