Udupi, Feb 11: The concluding programme of the road safety week held in association with Lions Club of the district 317C and Udupi traffic police was held at Olakadu High School, here.
Udupi police circle inspector, Manjunath said, "The government is spending for students more than 100% spent by parents for education and other expenditure. Therefore, students are the assets of the nation. More than 80% of accidents occur due to the negligence of drivers. The country also incurs loss from every road accident. If a person dies in an accident out of driving without a license, the vehicle owner has to pay an insurance amount from his own funds. Two-wheelers should never be driven without helmets. Injuries to any part of the body other than head can be treated."
Lions district governor Neelakanta M Hegde, deputy governor Vishwanath Shetty, Olakadu school headmaster Nirmala B, RTO J P Gangadhar, Nanda Kishore, Anantaram Vagle, Ramdas Shettigar, Harish Poojary, Jayaprakash Bhandary and others were present.
A video about the problems caused by accidents and ways to prevent them was shown to the students.
