Udupi, Feb 11: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha has asked municipal commissioner to cancel the trade license of the commercial complex who encroach places meant for parking. He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of road safety committee at the deputy commissioner’s office on Thursday, February 11.
“Parking problems have hindered the free flow of traffic and pedestrians are unable to walk on the road. The place for parking is reserved when commercial complexes and residential buildings are constructed. Those who encroach the place for other purposes should be issued notices and be asked to vacate within 15 days. Their trade licenses should be cancelled if they do not vacate the area. The municipal council should make sure that the needful is done,” the deputy commissioner directed the officials.
In the meeting, the DC asked the concerned authorities to close the potholes in the city limits. He also stated that speed bumps should be constructed only in inevitable conditions that too in a scientific manner.
“Necessary signboards should be erected at 34 blackspots that are identified on national highways. Potholes should be closed to prevent accidents. The underpass near Kota should be widened so that two vehicles can pass at a time,” he directed the national highway department engineer.
“Children below 18 years are found driving vehicles and thereby violating traffic rules. Awareness programmes should be held in all the colleges in the district with a warning that parents would be also held liable if minors are seen driving vehicles,” DC added.
“The bridge at the entrance to Krishna Math near Kalsanka should be widened to prevent traffic congestion. The concerned departments should submit details of activities and information of the estimated cost that will facilitate the smooth flow of traffic as per the plan prepared by road safety authority,” he said.
District panchayat CEO, Dr Navin Bhat, additional deputy commissioner, Sadashiva Prabhu, ASP, Kumar Chandra, district panchayat assistant secretary, Kiran Padnekar, municipal commissioner, Udaya Shetty, RTO Gangadhar and various department officials were present.
