Mangaluru, Feb 12: Relating to a case of a cheque amounting to Rs 40 lac issued by her in favour of Veeru Talkies Production company from the city that was returned unpaid for want of funds, the JMFC fifth court here has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against popular Kannada actress, Padmaja Rao.

Tulu cine director, Veerendra Shetty Kavoor, had filed the case of cheating against actress Padmaja Rao. The director has claimed that when acting in Tulu movie, 'Chali Polilu' two years back, Padmaja had borrowed Rs 40 lac in stages and had failed to repay the sum to him. He has claimed that one lac rupees were paid to him in cash and for the balance amount, the cheque was issued.

"Loan was given in the name of my firm, and we have all documents to prove the same. The cheque bounce case was filed in September 2020 and notice was served to the actress. As the actress chose not to respond to the notice, the case again came up for hearing during November. Padmaja did not respond to the summons. Now, the JMFC court has issued a non-bailable warrant," the director added.

"Police personnel of Thalaghattapura station at Bengaluru, have been instructed to arrest her and produce her in the court. The police are expected to arrest Padmaja and present her before the court on March 9," Veerendra stated.
