Karkala, Feb 15: The feast of St Antony's relic was celebrated with zeal and devotion at St Antony's Chapel at Pakala, Manjarpalke near Belman on Monday February 15. The priests of St Joseph’s parish, Belman, have been serving the faithful in their spiritual needs at the chapel from the past 47 years.

The festive Eucharistic celebration was celebrated under the leadership of Fr Charles Menezes, parish priest, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, along with Fr Edwin D'Souza, parish priest, St Joseph's Church, Belman, and with other priests from Udupi diocese.

In his homily, Fr Charles Menezes said, "We chose the theme for the feast 'We all must live like brothers and sisters'. It is a very meaningful quote. We notice only negative feelings first and then later on we talk about positive aspects. With that, it makes it difficult for us to live like brothers and sisters. It is possible only when we change ourselves first. These days we think that earthly pleasure is everything. But these pleasures do not help us at the time of need.

"There is a need for us to realise that we are not permanent in this world. To live like brothers and sisters there is a need for us to give away the little part that we have. That is sacrificing a little that is with us, not extra what we have. We have feelings of indifference among us.

“Today we have gathered here to celebrate the feast of St Antony's Relic. We pray to him for our needs but we forget to thank him for the favours received from him. So let us be open hearted and praise God for the favours received from Him and treat others as our brothers and sisters,” he said.

Prior to mass, candles of honor were given to the donors and benefactors. Fr Edwin D’Souza expressed gratitude to all concerned at the end of the celebration. Donors who have helped in the development of the chapel were felicitated by Fr Charles Menezes.

Fr Ivan Joy Martis, assistant parish priest, St Joseph's Church, Alwyn Agera, vice president, parish pastoral council, St Joseph Church, Belman, Faustine D’Souza, secretary, parish pastoral council, St Joseph Church, Belman, Gregory Menezes, vice president, St Antony's Chapel, Manjarpalke, Belman, and other committee members were present on the occasion.

Devotees of St Antony participated in the festive celebration of St Anthony’s relic. Festive meal was served to devotees after the mass.

Prior to festive celebrations, three days of novena were celebrated at the holy place.
