Kundapur, Feb 16: Krishna Golla and Ragini Devadiga were elected as president and vice-president respectively of Koteshwar gram panchayat in the taluk. Their election was unanimous and their terms will be 30 months duration.
The election process was conducted at the Koteshwar gram panchayat office on Monday February 15. Kusumakar Shetty participated as the returning officer.
Koteshwar gram panchayat has 26 members of which 20 are supported by the BJP. Five are supported by the Congress and the other member is an independent. This time, reservation criteria for the post of the president was for backward class A, and that of the vice-president, for woman candidates from general category.
Krishna Golla presents Koteshwar constituency No 3. Ragini has been elected from Koteshwar 11th constituency.
At the felicitation function held later, Krishna Golla said that he considers the post as a huge responsibility, and not as an august post. "I hail from a small community. Still, I have been given such a big responsibility. My party and the support of the local MLA are to be thanked for this development. I will work honestly to transform Koteshwar into a model panchayat," he said.
The newly elected president and vice-president were honoured by food and civil supplies department vice-president, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Pattabhi Ramachandra temple trustee, Sridhar Kamath, BJP Mandal president, Shankar Ankadakatte, zilla panchayat member, Laxmi Manju Billava, taluk panchayat social justice committee chairperson, Roopa Pai and many others were present. Satish Poojary Vakwady compered the programme.
