Kundapur, Feb 19: "A programme titled ‘Chatrapathi Shivaji’ is scheduled to be held at Sharada College grounds, Basrur under the leadership of Yuva Brigade on February 21 at 5.30 pm. Udupi Pejavar math seer Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, BJP national organizing secretary B L Santhosh, Basrur Mahalingeshwara temple managing trustee B Appanna Hegde and Yuva Brigade founder Chakravarthi Soolibele will participate in the programme," said Yuva Brigade Dakshina Kannada division convener Niranjan Tallur.
Speaking in the press conference held at Kundapur press club on February 19, he said, "More than 5,000 people from all the corners of the state will take part in it. Bike rallies will be held from three parts. A Shobha Yatra will be held at Basrur. The statue of Shivaji will be unveiled at the main circle at 4 pm.
"Foreigners who were attracted to the glory and wealth of Basrur were conducting business there. The Portuguese arrived in Basrur in 1525 and later acquired the area here for trade. Chatrapathi Shivaji arrived from Sindhu Durga via Honnavar of Karwar to Basrur and released Basrur from the grip of foreigners providing independence to Basrur on February 13. The Chatrapathi Shivaji programme will be held on Kannada land.
State coordination committee convener Chandrashekar and Yuva Brigade taluk secretary Gopala were present.
