Udupi, Feb 20: A gang of bank customers have allegedly tried to cheat SCDCC bank by trying to pledge fake gold for a bank loan.
SCDCC bank manager Gopalakrishna Mayya in the police complaint stated that P V Raju, resident of H B R Layout, Bengaluru and Rajesh colluded with their accomplices Suresh K P and Vijaya Kumar to cheat the bank. Vijaya Kumar got gold plated six bangles made of different metal. Rajesh and P V Raju took the six bangles to the bank on August 12, 2010. They pledged the bangles and borrowed a loan of Rs 68,000 from the bank. Vijaya Kumar and K P Suresh stood outside the bank and cooperated with Rajesh and P V Raju during the process, stated the bank manager in the complaint.
As all the four suspects tried to cheat the bank, a case under sections 417, 420 together with 34 is registered against all of them. Fourth suspect Vijayakumar alias Suresh Shetty is absconding without appearing in the court. The then PSI Sampath Kumar of Udupi town police station conducted investigations and submitted a charge sheet to the court.
First Additional chief justice and JMFC court justice M N Manjunath who heard the case concluded that the guilt of P V Raju and Rajesh is proved. He has sentenced both of them to two years imprisonment and Rs 1,000 fine each. They will have to undergo another 30 days jail term if they fail to pay the fine.
Assistant public prosecutor Mohini K argued for the government. Legal officer Mumtaz heard the witnesses.
The suspects had also pledged fake gold at Badagubettu credit cooperative society and Padubidri cooperative bank and the branch managers had lodged police complaints in this connection. The then Udupi town police station sub inspector Sampath Kumar had conducted investigations and the then sub inspector of Padubidri police station Mahadeva Shetty had submitted a charge sheet to the court.
The first additional CJ and JMFC court justice M N Manjunath had concluded that the guilt of P V Raju and Rajesh was proved and slapped a prison term of one year each on February 15. But as the suspects had undergone punishment being in judicial custody, the case is set up.
Justice M N Manjunath who heard the case of Padubidri society concluded that the guilt against P V Raju and Rajesh is proved and sentenced them to a year’s imprisonment each on February 15.
