Udupi, Feb 20: A sanctuary will come up in memory of late Vishweshatheertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math. A proposal for a centre to protect turtles is already sent to the government, said chairman of Karnataka Biodiversity Board, environmentalist Ananth Hegde Ashisar.
Speaking in the news conference held in the deputy commissioner’s office, he said that the decision will be announced after TCF and CRZ officials submit the report.
He said that there is a demand for 100% subsidy for solar fencing to prevent damages by monkeys. A special scheme is being prepared to protect deemed forests. The blueprints for them are likely by May, he said.
A list to construct 15 fish reserves to protect rare varieties of fish in Dakshina Kannada and other places is prepared. Places at Ranganatittu, Muttathi, Shishila, Kushalnagar Nisarga Dhama, Kelkar, Marakatha, Seetanadi, Nakur Gaya, Bhagavati Chayakolla, Nalkur, Uppu Kula, Ramanguli, Addahole and Paka are identified for the purpose, he said.
Dr Prakash Mestha, Clifford Lobo, ACF Vigilance team, ACF Lohith, DFO Ashish Reddy and Dr Dinesh were present.
