Bambolim, Feb 23: After being in the hospital for over a month following the fatal accident, AYUSH minister Shripad Naik is likely to be discharged from Goa Medical College Hospital on February 24.

Earlier in the year, Naik met with an accident in Uttar Kannada which led to the death of his wife Vijaya and personal secretary. The incident had occurred late evening on January 11.

Later in January, a team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had examined him in GMC.

On January 19, union sports minister Kiren Rijiju was given the responsibilities of the AYUSH ministry, as Naik was in the hospital and undergoing treatment. President Ram Nath Kovind temporarily assigned the Ministry of AYUSH (independent charge) to Rijiju, a decision taken on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
