Mangaluru, Feb 24: In the light of high prevalence of coronavirus infection in Kerala, the district administration continued to insist on production of coronavirus negative reports from the people entering Dakshina Kannada district at its border with Kerala on Tuesday February 23. Health and police officials stood guard at the border and checked about the possession of the certificates with the passengers.

Passengers were seen queuing up for inspection. Democratic Youth Federation of India activists staged a protest at Talapady border, protesting against the restrictions imposed by Dakshina Kannada district administration.

On Tuesday, the scrutiny was a little lax for the reason that people needed time to procure the negative certificates. Several were allowed in on the basis of their identity cards. Scrutiny of passengers was undertaken since morning at the check posts at the roads leading into the district from Kerala.

Kerala protests

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has written to the Prime Minster, expressing his opposition to restrictions imposed by Karnataka government at its border. He pointed out that closing the border and imposing travel restrictions are against the guidelines of the central government and sought the intervention of the Prime Minister. He said that students, patients, workers, and transport vehicles are facing lot of problems at the border and sought clear instructions to Karnataka government from the Prime Minister to allow free passage at the state's border with Karnataka.
