Udupi, Feb 24: Effective use of social media is not only a science but a skill. Knowledgeable BJP activists who use it following party guidelines will benefit, said Vidhan Parishad member and state BJP spokesperson Capt Ganesh Karnik.
He was speaking at the district social media symposium held at the district BJP office on February 20. “Social media is the primary platform which can be used to spread information on social work and the political sector. Before, we had to depend on daily newspapers, magazines and journals. Electronic communication became important during the mid-20th century. The use of digital media increased during the 21st century and the use of social media to reach people has become inevitable,” he said.
BJP district president Kuilady Suresh Nayak who inaugurated the symposium said that social media can be termed as community media as several topics can be conveyed to several people within a short time. “As published topics reach from one person to several people it can be considered a public communication forum,” he said.
State social network committee member, Nitin Raj Nayak said that BJP desires social and communal harmony in the country. “If party activists work for BJP, they should encourage national values. It is better to refrain from posting or forwarding posts that create a divide,” he said.
Mangaluru division in charge K Udayakumar Shetty said that social media is different from traditional print and TV media. It provides an opportunity to give opinions on the topics published by us and conduct discussions. “Develop the habit of reading the posts twice before sharing them,” he said.
District social media convenor, Chandrashekar Prabhu presided over the event. District chief secretary, Kuthyar Navin Shetty was present. District social media member, Harshit Rai compered the programme. Co-convenor, Prabhachandra Nayak welcomed and rendered a vote of thanks.
