Bantwal, Feb 26: A free heart checkup camp was held jointly by Sevanjali Prathishtana Farangipete, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) and Rotary Club, Bantwal in the cooperation of K S Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte at Sevanjali auditorium, Farangipete on Thursday, February 25. The camp was held in memory of the late Saraswati K Poonja and K Kantappa Poonja, parents of Sevanjali Prathishtana managing trustee, Krishna Kumar Poonja.
Bantwal tahsildar Rashmi SR inaugurated the camp. She advised people to get heart checkups often as 80% of heart diseases can be prevented by precautions.
K S Hegde Hospital heart specialist, Dr Subrahmanya K said heart health and body health can be maintained by regular exercises and yoga. Bad food habits and mental stress affect the heart. Blood tests, consumption of food in moderation and changes in food habits prevents heart disease, he said.
Rotary district governor Prakash Karanth said that amassing wealth is not important but making others wealthy is important. Bantwal taluk project officer of SKDRDP Jayananda said that the programme is meaningful. We live in the illusion that wealth is everything. As we go for a hasty life, we give immense pressure on our hearts and the number of heart patients increases. Serving ten patients is equivalent to visiting ten temples, he said. Arkula Beedu, Vajranabha Shetty presided over the camp.
Rotary club Bantwal president K Narayana Hegde, secretary Vani Karanth, Thumbe gram panchayat president Praveen B Thumbe, Pudu gram panchayat president Ramlan Maripalla, SKDRDI supervisor Mamata, dentist Dr Ranjith Shetty and organization sponsor Arkula Zafrulla Odeyar were on the dais.
Taranath Kothari welcomed. Sevanjali Prathishtana managing trustee, Krishna Kumar Poonja rendered a vote of thanks. Devadas Shetty compered the programme.
