Udupi, Feb 26: Kasturba Hospital and Medical College will be observing World Hearing day by organising an online questionnaire for hearing care and prevention and also a free Hearing screening through telephone.

“In order to spread awareness of this crucial concept, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and speech and hearing organisations observe the World Hearing Day on the third of March every year. As a part of this venture, in association with Rotary Club Ambalpady, from March 1-6, an online questionnaire for hearing care and prevention and also a free Hearing screening through telephone will be available to all”, said Dr Usha Devadas, head of department of speech and hearing.

For further assessment and treatment purposes, individuals can visit Kasturba Hospital, Manipal or Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi. Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent urged the general public to avail of this service and said early identification and appropriate treatment can lead to improved quality of life in individuals with Hearing loss.

Hearing and speech-language play a very vital role in everyday human communication. Most of these disorders go unnoticed as the disability is not always visible and pronounced. However, they can have a devastating impact on our lives hearing loss can occur in individuals of all ages, ranging from a newborn to an elderly.
