Udupi: St Mary's celebrates National Science Day & Achievers Day -2021

Udupi, Mar 3: National Science Day celebration was held at St Mary’s Auditorium with an objective to promote scientific temperament among the young learners. The central focus of this year’s Science Day celebration was to provide students hands on experience in the field of science and thereby enhancing their scientific skills.

The chief guest of the program Dr Sandeep Rao Kordcal, the proud alumnus of the school; Fr Charles Menezes, the correspondent of St Mary’s Educational Institutions; Fr Ashwin Aranha, ast parish priest, Udupi, Boniface D’Souza, the vice president of Parish Pastoral Council, Mother of Sorrows church, Udupi; Benedicta Fernandes, the secretary of Parish Pastoral Council, Mother of Sorrows church,Udupi and the honorable members of School Management Committee were given a traditional welcome at the entrance by school band.Teachers welcomed the audience with a semi classical thematic dance highlighting the message of universal peace and harmony.



Principal of the institution Fr Johnson Sequiera in his introductory remarks spoke on the significant role of science and technology in the qualitative progression of mankind and outlined the outstanding achievements of chief guest Dr Sandeep Rao Kordcal in the field of medical science. Dignitaries, guests and special invitees were offered a floral welcome through a Robot resourced from Atal Tinkering Lab. National Science Day celebration 2021 was uniquely inaugurated by performing an innovative experiment of chemistry. Dignitaries on the stage later offered a floral tribute to the portrait of Dr C V Raman, the legendary scientist of India.

The winners of science chart Making competition and science model making competitions from Grade 6 to 12 were awarded with prizes on this special occasion. Later the top scorers and subject wise best performers of the academic year 2019-20 were honored with endowment prizes and certificates.

Chief Guest Dr Sandeep Rao Kordcal in his speech highlighted the need of developing reasoning and investigating skills to have a better and deeper understanding of the world around us. He also said, “One must gratefully accept the success with utmost humility as achievement in any field is not a personal glory but involves the collective efforts and sacrifices of parents, teachers and well-wishers”. Dr Sandeep Rao Kordcal was later given a special felicitation for his outstanding academic records and distinctive achievements in the field of medical science.

The august gathering of students, parents and alumni at St Mary’s Auditorium also witnessed the felicitation ceremony of two staff members. Usha Poojary, the coordinator of Kindergarten section and Ida Sequiera, the supportive staff were grandly felicitated for their magnanimous service by correspondent, chief guest, principal, vice principal and management committee members with citation, garland, fruit bowl and memento. The certificate of appreciation was read by Mrs. ManjulaBlazo and Mrs. Amratha. The staff coordinators along with the representatives of office staff, supportive staff and transportation staff presented bouquets to the honorees.

Fr Charles Menezes in his presidential address said, “The present generation should draw inspiration from the invaluable contributions given by great scientists towards the betterment of mankind”. He also appealed students to make a difference in the society by setting society oriented goals and full filling social responsibilities.

Fr Ashwin Aranha honored the winners of National Science Day competition. Vice principal Quadros coordinated the programme and expressed the words of gratitude. Babeena Karkera and Poornima Amin jointly anchored the programme.

The honorable members of school management committee Gartian Bothelo, Maxim D’Souza, Janet D’Souza, and Walter D’Souza were present on the occasion.
The school anthem was sung to mark the closure of National Science Day-2021 and Achievers’ Day.
