Modi stresses on lesser govt intervention in business

New Delhi, Mar 5 (IANS): Stressing on the need for lesser government intervention and ease of doing business, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the Centre was of the view that the government interventions into businesses tend to create more problems rather than bring solutions.

Speaking at a webinar on production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes, Modi said that with its view of ease of doing business, the government has been stressing on self-regulation, self-attesting and self-certification.

Stressing that both government policies and strategy are clear in terms of the manufacturing sector, he said that its motto is minimum government and maximum governance.

Modi also said that the manufacturing sector should focus on the quality of products and adopt the motto of "zero effect, zero defect".

He also said that PLI schemes for certain sectors do not end up just supporting those very sectors but also help in the growth of the entire ecosystem related to those sectors.

"The benefit provided to advanced cell batteries, solar PV modules and speciality steel will modernise the country's energy sector and in the same way the benefits for textile and food processing sector will support the agriculture sector," he said.

Modi was of the view that the PLI schemes for auto and pharma sectors will also lower the import dependence for the raw materials of auto parts, medical equipment and medicines.

The Prime Minister also said that the workforce in the sectors under PLI schemes may double in the next five years.

He noted that better manufacturing capabilities also improve employment generation in the country.

Yes. That is what the Govt is doing in Haryana now. Business people have no choice on whom to employ. Even in middle East countries, there is some consideration for outsiders. Here within our own country, local Govt decides.

He is indirectly justifying selling PSUs. Well, the government requires no intervention in business but wants tax, tax, tax. Independent India was set up, by the then visionary leaders, by funding/investing on big corporations - say, banking, insurance, health, railway, post, port, aviation and so on - giving jobs to people and services to the public in general. The corporations grew to the present level, which the Modi government sold off to his own buddies. How is Modi now justifying the sale ? Whereas he came to power saying '70 saal mein kyaa kiya' indirectly promising to do more that earlier governments did. Contradictingly, he swallowed up (all what the earlier governments did in 70 years) by selling/privatizing the corporations and brought the growth rate to NEGATIVE. Vote for a government with a difference, people, please continue voting for it. Someday, your dream of making India a 'Hindu Nation' will be fulfilled but by then all the rich Hindus will be fled to either Kailasa or Antigua. Only the patriot Indians will remain, not wishing a nation on the basis of religion but with a motto of 'live harmoniously all communities united' that may have stirred up long ago by the present government. Jai Hind.

You can privatize businesses but distribute it as per merit and knowledge of the business to whom it is awarded without nepotism. Awarding Rafael business to Reliance is not acceptable. Don’t award only to your cronies no matter what and keep some job quota for BPL and weaker section of the society and bear the expense.

Govt has no business to be in Business if so then there is no need at all for a Govt. PSU's and Govt Undertakings ensured Govt control on these agencies that had a direct bearing on the Security and Livelyhood of Millions of workers in these enterprises. By washing their hands of from all such enterprises the Govt is as good as disowning responsibility towards their own citizens.

With the economy in shambles and the weaker sections of our society in tatters and the outright sales of all PSU's to the Hum Dho Aur Hamare Dho, there is nothing left for Govt intervention.
