Karkala: Social media agog with young girl's presence at Kambala field

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Mar 6: The uncommon appearance of a young girl along with buffalos at the Lava-Kusha Jodukare Kambala held recently at Miyyar, Karkala, has been lapped up by social media on a large scale.

The girl who has been hogging so much attention happens to be the elder of two daughters of Bollampalli Parameshwar Bhat couple from Kundapur, Chaitra. She has been very affectionate towards the cattle since a very young age. She has been undertaking the work of giving a bath to the buffalos, feeding them every day etc voluntarily. She came to Miyyar and appeared in the field along with her pair of buffalos, a development that has given rise to a sense of excitement and curiosity among the Kambala enthusiasts.

Chaitra happens to be a Class 6 student of Kalthodu school in Bollampalli village. She has an immense interest in Kambala since she was very young. Her father, Parameshwar Bhat, has been involved with agriculture for the last 25 years and has also been raising Kambala buffalos. His buffalos raced at Miyyar Kambala under Chaitra's ownership.

Chaitra says she is happy in taking part in Kambalas and has an immense interest in Kambala. She said she also dreams of becoming a Kambala racer in the future.

Gunapal Kadamba, convener of Kambala Conservation, Monitoring and Training Academy, acknowledged that Chitra Bhat has re-written history. He says that the academy is committed to providing Kambala training to women in the coming days in order to give them due representation in Kambala.

every child has a right to normal and healthy life as child or teenager... they should be groomed for the best possible career in their future life, may be doctor, engineer, scientist, academician.... parents cannot push them to activities like kambala racing, ಡೊಂಬರಾಟ etc. if at all she decides to pursue kambala racing egged on by parents, it will be her loss as an individual... racing buffaloes is adult activity... there is no children's kambala race... children should be confined to children's activities...

You are over-reacting. She is not racing buffaloes, but taking interest in Kambala activities. She aspires to be a Kambala racer some day, she isn't participating right now. Please think of those young Indian boys of a particular community that were engaged as camel jockeys (though now banned) just to reduce weight on the back of camels. Probably human-trafficked out of India. This girl is much better than those children, she is in the company of her father, not sold as slaves.

Truly exciting to read Chaitra's feat; Kambala is blessed with such enthusiasts at a very young age, and if she can crack the male dominated sport her father is encouraging. so can our brave women everywhere, running airplanes, commanding army battalions and even conquering space Cheers Chaitra.

Please keep your children as you wish and let others also do their wish. As long as they aren't starved or abused, no third person has a say about who wants to raise his children how.

Please let women take interest in whatever they want, don't be threatened by her aspiring to be a Kambala racer some day. When they become wodows, with no other option, they have driven trucks, auto rickshaw or even trains. Obviously to feed the children left behind by their husband. As such, a father encouraging them to live a life irrelevant of gender reservation it should be commended and supported, not belittled/discouraged/criticised.
